Why Say Yes!
The issue
It’s simple really.
More than 50,000 private and commercial properties in Norfolk receive very poor broadband – some people can’t receive even a basic broadband service.
Now basic broadband is ok if you want to surf the web or order your groceries on-line, but many of us want more. We want to watch on demand TV, play on-line games with friends and use live video links to catch up with family. We also want to do business – multi million pound business in fact – all through the touch of a button.
As you can imagine, large parts of the UK already have superfast broadband. This means individuals and businesses across the country can surf the web or do business over the Internet much faster than us – and quite simply this puts Norfolk at a disadvantage.
So how do we get better broadband in Norfolk?
To help get Norfolk back on track Norfolk County Council made a successful bid in early 2011 to Broadband Delivery UK for £15 million – this is being matched by an additional £15 million from the county council.
This money will be added to a significant sum from the private sector partner who wins the contract to deliver Norfolk’s better broadband infrastructure.
This will enable two things: basic broadband as a minimum, right across Norfolk, so that everyone who wants access to broadband can have it; and significant levels of speed uplift to provide superfast broadband for as much of Norfolk as possible.
